Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats
These Spider Web Rice Krispie Treats are a quick and easy Halloween dessert that are perfect for class parties, Halloween parties or a special lunchbox treat. Melted marshmallows create a spooky spider web effect on top of these tasty treats. We used the prepackaged Rice Krispie treats to streamline the process, but you could easily use homemade Rice Krispies as well.
Supplies For This Easy Halloween Dessert
- Black candy melts – you could do other dark colors as well like dark purple or a deep orange to coordinate with your decorations. The spider webs will stand out more if it’s a darker color. You could also use melted dark or milk chocolate.
- Bag of marshmallows – we used mini marshmallows but any size will work
- Prepackaged Rice Krispies Treats
- Parchment paper
First unwrap all of the Rice Krispies Treats and set them aside. Add your black candy melts to a microwave save bowl. Heat the candy melts for 1 minute at 50% power then stir and continue to heat in 30 second increments stirring in between until the candy melts are completely melted. Continue heating and stirring until the candy melts have a smooth consistency.
Coating The Rice Krispies
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Carefully dip the top of the Rice Krispies treat into the melted candy melts. Use a spatula to gently smooth out the top and catch any excess candy melts. Place them on the parchment paper to cool.
Keep a damp hand towel or paper towel nearby to clean off your finger tips if you get any candy coating on them. Let all of the coated Rice Krispies cool completely.
Adding The Marshmallow Webs
Put your marshmallows into a microwave safe bowl and heat them for about 35 seconds. Stir and stir until the marshmallows have melted then let the marshmallows cool slightly.
It is easier to add the marshmallow spider webs one Rice Krispies Treat at a time. Turn over a coffee mug and sat the Rice Krispies Treat on top. I had a lot more control over where the marshmallow strings went.
Pick up a tiny bit of the marshmallow mixture with your fingertips and spread your fingers apart so the mixture starts to get very stringy. Carefully place the stringy marshmallow pieces down on the top of your candy coated Rice Krispies treats.
I used a set of kitchen tongs to move the finished Rice Krispies to and from the tray since my fingers were a tad bit sticky.
Let the Rice Krispies cool completely. If you are not serving them right away, make sure to store them in an air tight container. To stack them on top of each other when storing them, add a laying of parchment paper in between the layers of spider web Rice Krispies treats. If you place any plastic wrap or anything directly onto the top of the marshmallow spider webs them will stick and come right off.
Add them to a serving tray and decorate with faux spiders or hand them directly to your cute little trick-or-treaters.
