Family Fall Getaway To The Omni Homestead
On a recent weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas we decided to take a quick family getaway to…well…”get away” from the current holiday chaos. Our schedules had become so full of events, parties, gatherings, and to-do items, that it was time to slow down and enjoy a little simple family fun time. The destination- Omni’s Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA.
The Homestead is an absolutely gorgeous property, from the grand tower to tons of little hallways and hidden rooms throughout the hotel. We wandered the property trying to find as many nooks as possible, some filled with jigsaw puzzles, others with books, checkers, and chess sets. There is an arcade tucked below one of the restaurants that makes time waiting for a table pass quickly. Our favorite, however, was a full sized theater where they showed free family friendly movies in the evenings (with popcorn!).
The rooms themselves were beautiful, spacious and clean. We did opt for a slight upgrade (mostly for the view) which did not disappoint.
The Resort offers skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and numerous other fun winter activities, however, we decided that this quick trip was going to focus on downtime and taking advantage of the many other “free” activities the property had to offer. Upon checking in, you are given a schedule of events for the day including classics such as bingo, kids crafts, story times, even a magic show. Two of our crew scoured the events planning out our day while the littlest enjoyed people watching and checking out the view of the mountains in the distance.
Every afternoon they offer a “tea” in the grand lobby.
We took our tea and cookies outside to enjoy on some of the many rocking chairs lining the front of the Resort.
After our little snack, it was time for a dip in the indoor pool. This is very different then your usual hotel pool. First, you are greeted with a gorgeous hallway leading up to the spa (will be returning at some point sans kiddos to take advantage of that little luxury 😉 ) followed by a stunning room housing the indoor pool.
After a quick dip, it was time for more exploring. On the back lawn there are games such as cricket and corn hole. I’m not exaggerating, the kids played there for hours while the resort got the fire pits started for the night. You can purchase smores kits conveniently located at the restaurant right beside the fire pit.
The next morning, before we reluctantly had to head back home, we decided to take a quick hike. If your hotel room faces the mountains, there are a set of three benches in a clearing way up on the mountain. We set out to find those benches and if you visit the Homestead I suggest you do too. The views are worth every mile of that hike!
Thank you Homestead for an outstanding adventure! We would love to return in warmer weather to take advantage of all their summer activities, such as the water slides, lazy river, and of course the poolside drink service option . Until next time! Where’s your favorite fall vacation spot for family travel?
