Our Favorite Podcasts For Family Road Trips
If you have a summer road trip coming up, you’ll want to check out our list of best podcasts for kids. We like to take a break from their electronics to listen to a family friendly podcast together. We’re sharing some of our favorite podcasts to add some variety to your next long car trip. These are also great for kids that tend to get carsick looking at screens or reading in the car. These podcasts do a wonderful job bringing the stories to life while the kids sit back and relax.
All three of our kids ranging in ages from 5 to 14 really like the Wow In The World podcast series. Two animated hosts lead listeners on a journey to explore the world around them. They focus on one or two topics each episode and explain how different things work or why different scientific phenomenons occur such as why onions make you cry or what is coral bleaching. The energy of the hosts and neat sound effects definitely hold your attention throughout the episode. This really is a great option for kids of all different ages.
What If World – A fun podcast for kids of all ages that takes popular and peculiar “what if” questions from kids and turns them into fun and colorful stories that the whole family will enjoy. Our kids love listening to this one at bedtime too.
But Why is a podcast for curious little minds. Each episode takes a look at a different questions like “Why Don’t Spiders Get Stuck In Their Webs?” and “Why Do Trains Run On Tracks?” and explains exactly why. This is a great option for a car full kids with a range of ages.
Podcasts for Older Elementary Kids and Tweens
The Unexplainable Disappearance Of Mars Patel is an easy way to get your kids off the screens and all engaged in a podcast in no time. Even my husband and I enjoyed listening. In this series, a group of middle school students mysteriously start disappearing around school. Friends of the missing kids ban together to try to figure out where everyone is going and how to get them back home. It’s described as “Goonies meets Spy Kids meets Stranger Things for 8-12 year olds.” This one might be a little much for the younger crowd. It was a little intense at times for our six year old, but she still enjoyed it.
Young Ben Franklin – We just started listening to this one and we are already hooked. This podcast tells stories of a 14 year old Benjamin Franklin and how his rebellious and curious mind gets him into a bit of trouble. He and his friends stumble upon a letter that leads them on a treasure hunt while trying to outsmart British government along the way. Like “The Unexplainable Disappearance of Mars Patel”, we love how the sound effects, music, and actor’s voices bring the story alive as you listen.
Six Minutes is another great podcast option for your next road trip. It unfolds the mystery of a young teen girl found lost at sea with no memory one six minute episode at a time. This might be a little too intense much for the younger crowd, but our kiddos ages really 6-13 enjoy it.
Podcasts For Younger Children
For younger children there are Disney Story Central Podcasts where they can hear their favorite Disney characters come to life in familiar Disney stories. Stories like Tangled, Moana, Aladdin, just to name a few, will come to life as your youngest passengers listen along.
Geared for your youngest travelers on board, the Sesame Street podcast brings to life some of their favorite characters like Elmo, Cookie Monster and Big Bird in the Sesame Street Podcasts .
