Houseplants That Help Clean The Air In Your Home

These five houseplants help remove harmful toxins and chemicals from the air in your home. A clean air study done by NASA in the late 1980s showed how certain houseplants were able to remove some of the everyday toxins and pollutants from indoor air.  These plants remove toxins such as trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, benzene, xylene and ammonia caused by everyday products or building materials in your home like paints, synthetic fibers, paper towels plywood, cleaning products etc. Exposure to these toxins over time has been linked to symptoms like headaches, dizziness, eye and throat irritation and more.  Such an easy way to improve the air quality in your home. You can find these plants online or at your local hardware store or nursery.  Keep in mind when choosing a plant that although they are wonderful at cleaning the air, some of these plants can be toxic to pets.

The Snake Plant also known as mother-in-law’s-tongue is one of the easiest houseplants to care. It’s virtually indestructible.  It will grow faster in bright sunlight, but it thrives in both indirect and direct light.  Snake plants are one of the top rated houseplants for improving indoor air quality in your home.  It removes trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, benzene and xylene from the air. It’s a great plant for your bedroom.  Instead of emitting carbon dioxide at night, these plans actually converts carbon dioxide into oxygen.

5. Dracaena or Dragon Tree

The Red-Edged-Dracaena, or Dragon Tree, thrives in a bright and sunny location, but will still tolerate lower-light conditions. These trees help to eliminate trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, benzene and xylene from your home’s air.
