These five houseplants can be found in the homes of many talented interior designers.  From instagram to magazine articles, these plants add color, texture and style to your home.  I’ve never had the greenest of thumbs, but I love how welcoming having live plants in our home.  And most of these plants aren’t just a pretty face.  A lot of them help to purify the air in your home.  You can snag all of these online or at your local hardware store or nursery to have the same houseplants that designers love.

1. Snake Plant

The striking Snake Plant also known as mother-in-law’s-tongue, can be found in at least one room of every designer’s home.  It is also one of the easiest houseplants to care for being virtually indestructible.  It will grow faster in bright sunlight, but it thrives in both indirect and direct light.  Snake plants are also one of the top rated houseplants for improving indoor air quality in your home.  It’s a great plant for your bedroom.  Instead of emitting carbon dioxide at night, these plans actually converts carbon dioxide into oxygen.

2.  Fiddle Leaf Fig

Fiddle Leaf Fig trees have gorgeous wide leaves that add great color, depth and texture to your space. It continues to be one of the most commonly found houseplants in curated designer spaces. These are a little more finicky than some houseplants. They prefer bright, filtered light and do not like to be moved around the house.  They don’t do well in drafty rooms and thrive in more humid conditions.

3. Succulents

Succulents can easily add a variety of color, texture and depth to your decor with an arrangement of these gorgeous houseplants. These are also fairly simple to care for.  They should be watered once a week and only once every 2 to 3 weeks during the winter.  When watering you should completely soak the soil and not water again until the soil has completely dried out.

The almost indestructible zz houseplant is another common choice for designers. Its shiny curved leaves add a fun contemporary look to your space. These plants thrive on being left alone.  Water only when the soil has completely dried out.
